Probably because of the chance of bad weather, the Mendocino Whale Festival is held twice each year. I had just volunteered two weeks before so I did not want to do that again. Instead I went visiting friends in Mendocino County and then came out to the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse to see if any of the other kayaker volunteers wanted to go surfing at Caspar Anchorage. I caught a bunch of people, including Sami Iwata, about to go on a long paddle somewhere. The conditions were not great, with medium swell that would prevent them from going into any of the many local caves. So Sami and a few other people joined me in the surf instead of the trip they had planned.

The conditions at Caspar were even better than a few weeks ago and I got a bunch of long rides in my little river boat. You can only do this for a few hours before you get totally exhausted, and then we had to quit. So I drove up all this way for a short time in the water. Perhaps I should save Mendocino for times when I can come up and stay for a few days.
