I was at home this Saturday, working on household chores while my dad worked (volunteer) at the Jenner Visitors Center. He noticed a spectacular sunset coming and called me to suggest we go canoeing around 5:00 PM to watch it. I showed up early at around 4:30 and it looked like the sunset was over already. We launched the canoe and paddled towards the river mouth anyway. As we crossed the river the sun came out below a dark band of clouds. So we were in plenty of time to watch the sunset over the ocean. We had considered getting out of the canoe to climb over the dunes to watch, but the mouth of the river was closed with just a small spit of sand between us and crashing waves. We sat there for half an hour and watched the last few surfers ride the waves while the sun set behind the horizon.
